The House on Hoarder Hill by Mikki Lish & Kelly Ngai - Book Review

Posted by Elissa Vaughan on

Synopsis
When Hedy and Spencer start receiving messages on dusty picture frames, their holiday at their grandfather’s spooky house turns into a mission to solve an old family mystery. Their grandmother disappeared during a magic performance many years ago—but where did she go? Hedy and Spencer set out to find the truth.

This was such a fun, whimsical, spooky, magical mystery! I was super intrigued about the spooky old house setting and it did not disappoint. I felt like I was there with Hedy and Spencer trying to solve the mystery of their missing grandmother.
Although this book is marketed for a younger audience (Scholastic recommends ages 9+), it was perfect for me - a 20-something scaredy-cat! So if you are easily spooked, I think you'll enjoy this one too, since it's not going to scare you silly, but will give you those spooky mystery vibes. I couldn't wait to see how it would end!
My favourite character was Spencer, I loved all the funny things he'd come out with. And the sibling relationship between Hedy and Spencer was really lovely to read about.
Also - I just have to mention the stunning cover! It was the first thing that drew me in, it's just gorgeous.

The House on Hoarder Hill is available to purchase or request from your library now!
